Accessibility statement

Accessibility statement for the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).

This website is run by NHS England. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible and we are working to fix these issues. Issues identified in our last accessibility review are listed in the non-compliance section below.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) (opens in a new tab) .

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

NHS England is committed to making the website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard (opens in a new tab), due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The following issues were identified in our last accessibility test:

  • Decorative images are announced to screen readers.
  • Some headings are not in a logical order.
  • Some buttons, links, and other controls have missing or incorrect labels, and some links use the same text for different destinations.
  • Error messages are not announced to screen readers.
  • On a small number of pages, information relies on colour alone.
  • Some content is hidden or lost on small screens or when text size changes.
  • Some content is not fully keyboard accessible, and session timeouts can’t be changed for security reasons.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 (opens in a new tab) if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix the guidance carried over from the IG toolkit.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We have migrated much of our help content to the NHS England Data Security Centre Website (opens in a new tab), to support publication of guidance via web content, rather than PDF. If you have accessibility needs and would like to share your views on these changes, please contact us.

We will conduct a fresh review of the site's accessibility in autumn 2025 and aim to address any non-compliance by summer 2026.
